Social Media and Weight Loss
Social media and weight loss.
I love Instagram, Facebook and twitter.
So many people sharing their stories through photos and short blurbs.
If I want a good vegan meal I can find a recipe with picture somewhere on Instagram.
If I am looking for a trail to run, I turn to Instagram or Facebook for suggestions.
If I want some motivation I check the people I follow who are all in varying degrees of perfection.
Why can’t I be perfect too?
Social media can be great but I learned early that I need to keep it in perspective.
What I see is an edited selection of highlights from other peoples lives. That amazing fitness model who has so much energy and is always preparing healthy meals is not the full reality.
We don’t see the family arguments. We don’t see stress or drama. Under all make up I expect there to be a few zits. Maybe the tight spandex is covering a great big boil on the bum. Maybe they fart when they lift weights. We only see what they want us to see.
Social media can be a great place to connect with people, but it can also be highly demotivating.
I learned early on that while it is ok to admire what someone else has achieved through hard work I shouldn’t aspire to be someone other than me.
I have my flaws and won’t deny them. I just won’t go out of my way to post about them.
So if I happen to fart when I do squats I won’t share it in Instagram.
If my family is reading this – The dog did it!
