Instant Pot Dal

Instant Pot Dal

I recently watched a British cooking show on Netflix and decided that I wanted to make a Dal.

They made it look so good on the television.  I loved the colors of the spices and visual textures. I thought I might not be able to cook at the level of those Indian cooks on Netflix but I wanted to try it for myself.

I looked online for a recipe to follow that used an instant pot and I found plenty.

I saw some recipes that suggested green lentils, red lentils and green moong dal.   I decided to use the green moong dal since it sounded the most traditional.

I am not going to post the recipe that I used.  While I enjoyed the taste, I thought some of the spice balance was off.  I am going to increase the amount of garlic and ginger and probably double the amount of chili powder used and include a whole dried chili while cooking. I also think I need to sauté the cardamom seeds a little longer at the beginning.

After 15 minutes in the pressure cooker the moong dal was a perfect texture.

My first attempt at making dal. It was good but could be better.

Overall I am happy with how it turned out but I think it could be made better.

Once I experiment a bit and make this recipe my own I will post it here.
